A letter from Kaylee

Dear Visitor,

Thank you for spending your time to browse my website, it means so much as a young Latina woman who has faced the adversity of a first generation college student. I've overcome many challenges, and have emerged victorious every time. Of course, I alone cannot take full credit for my success. There were many people who were there for me at the right place, at the right time.

Dedication

I'd like to dedicate this space to some very important individuals who I am incredibly grateful to have in my life: my late grandfather Jose, who came to the United States in the 1980s to make a living for my family back in Mexico; my mother Laura, who struggled through an extensive immigration process, a heartbreaking separation, and troubling mental health struggles, yet has an amazing work ethic that pulled through for my family when we needed it most; my sister Alondra, who is bravely battling a benign brain tumor; and finally, my long-term partner Jerron, who has shown me the pride associated with going above and beyond.

These individuals have inspired me through their commitment, work ethic, bravery, and love. Without them, I would be a husk of the person I am now.

The Start of My Journey

My aspiration for marketing came at a very early age, when I was a mere child playing Minecraft. I had joined a small multiplayer server for which I was a social media manager for two years. There, I learned how to edit images, appeal content to audiences, and give players the support they needed to have a satisfying experience. I knew at that moment that marketing was my calling.

As for management, it came to me when I contemplated what I wanted to do alongside marketing. I felt the need to find an additional concentration that I'd be happy with and which aligned with my skill set. I'm someone who always takes initiative, leaps into action, and who feels a drive to lead. Additionally, my uncle Jason had put Management Leadership on my radar (he majored in it and is extremely successful) so I was a curious cat. I took the leap, and here I am now.

Finally, I had actually never imagined I'd be minoring in communication studies. As a matter of fact, during my freshman year I took a public speaking fundamentals course, and my professor explained that she was a communications major, but I never understood the full extent of it. I got curious about it towards the end of my sophomore year because of the strong link between marketing and communications, so I had to say yes to this opportunity. I'm glad I did because now I understand my environment in a completely unique way; with a new lens that feels intentional and passionate.

My Interests

I've had many interests throughout my years, some of those include my hobbies in baking, cooking. and crafting. As a kid, I probably frustrated my mom with the mess I'd make in the kitchen from my cooking/baking fails (sorry mom...), but having this worry-free environment where I could make mistakes supported my growth tremendously. Today, I continue to create fun (and equally messy) projects for myself (such as a paper mache cow mask!)

Most importantly, I've been inspired by some nerdy media - projects such as the Slay the Princess visual novel game and the Jojo's Bizarre Adventures anime series. These creations have made me realize two of my biggest motivations: to live a life full of rich experiences and diverse perspectives, and the need to uphold my family's iconic legacy. Someday, I hope my work will inspire someone in the same way I've been inspired by these artworks.

My Future

After I graduate from college, I hope to develop more skills that would solidify my marketing expertise. With that, I'd like to do many different things, maybe become a Marketing Manager or even a Market Analyst. I'm always open to trying new things, because I've found great success through new experiences. I'm excited to see where my path takes me.

If you're seeing this right now, I know we'd likely meet and get to know each other much more in-depth. I look forward to that moment. Until then, please connect with me on Linkedin, or send an email my way. I would love to connect!

With much love and respect,

Kaylee Peña Guerrero
